Description
The Multi-Role Multiplier: Airbus A330 MRTT RAAF Edition
Bridge the gap between civilian engineering and military necessity with the Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT). Known in Royal Australian Air Force service as the KC-30A, this aircraft is a heavily modified version of the commercial A330-200 airliner. It serves as a critical force multiplier, capable of refueling fighter jets in mid-air while simultaneously transporting troops and cargo. This kit captures the imposing presence of a modern strategic tanker, highlighting the technological adaptations required for modern air warfare.
This SKYCRAFT release features specific tooling that differentiates it from a standard passenger jet. The model includes the sophisticated Aerial Refueling Boom System (ARBS) mounted under the tail, as well as the Cobham refueling pods located under the wings for probe-and-drogue operations. The fuselage is dotted with accurate military avionics blisters, sensors, and antennas that are not found on the civilian version. The panel lines are recessed and precise, allowing for a detailed wash to bring out the mechanical complexity of the control surfaces and engine nacelles.
The decal sheet provides the authentic, low-visibility grey livery of the Royal Australian Air Force. It features the iconic "Kangaroos" within the roundels, No. 33 Squadron markings, and accurate tail numbers. The monochromatic grey scheme offers modelers a fantastic opportunity to practice advanced weathering techniques, such as tonal variation (pre-shading and post-shading) to replicate the subtle grime and fading seen on operational military aircraft exposed to the harsh Australian sun.
